Frequently Asked Questions about Movies

Q: How do I find out how much admission is to the theater I want to go to?
A: Due to the constant changes movie theaters make regarding their admission prices and the number of theaters we update on a weekly basis, we do not feel we could accurately list prices. Generally, theaters charge between $5-8.50 for evening shows and $4-7 for matinees.

Q: Why do you only list movies a week at a time? I want to now what's playing next weekend - now.
A: According to theater managers, the national movie distributors don't finalize local schedules until a couple of days before the movies open. That's why our site is updated on Thursday mornings for the upcoming week. Most theaters in Maine consider the 'movie week' to run from Friday-Thursday. Occasionally a movie opens mid-week but that is usually due in large part to a mid-week holiday.

Q: When do you actually update your movie listings?
A: Our movies database is updated on Thursday mornings for the upcoming week but there are a few theaters that don't have information for us until Friday morning. Therefore, we have posted on our site that our listings will be complete on Fridays by noon.

Ocassionally, some movies open during the middle of the week (usually because of a mid-week holiday), and some theaters don't send us their listings until a day or two before the holiday. We try to work with theater managers to get their listings ahead of time but sometimes that's not possible. Therefore, we are at the disadvantage of waiting for theaters to send us their listings so during some holiday weeks, our listings have to be posted late.

Q: You don't have any listings to my favorite theater this week. Why?
A: Our site relies on the movie theater managers (or their theater's national representative) to send us their weekly listings. Sometimes the manager or national representative doesn't send us their schedules. When this happens we try our best to track down the listings. But there are times when we can't get the information and are not able to post a listing.

Q: How do we know if a movie is going to open in Maine?
A: We've recently added a new feature called 'Upcoming Movies' that lists movies' national release dates. We assume that these movies will be showing in Maine on their 'National Release Date' but there are times when no Maine theaters show that movie. Sometimes the movie will come to the state a week or two later, or not at all. If you have questions about a particular movie you'd like to see and you know that the 'National Release Date' has passed, you should contact your favorite movie theater's manager to inquire about its release here.
