Maine Country Music Pro Don Campbell

Don Campbell is a local country music performer and songwriter with one foot in the Maine music scene, and the other foot in Nashville, paying his dues and working hard to make a career doing what he loves. He and The Don Campbell Band have played on stage with Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith, and many others. Don was named Best Singer/Songwriter by the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Reader’s Poll in 2004 and 2005, and is a three-time Boston Music Award winner for country act of the year.

Don’s music is very entertaining country-pop. It’s upbeat, sincere, simple and very accessible. It doesn’t go too deep – he probably won’t break your heart with his tunes, but if you’re heart is already broken, he’ll probably get you out of your depression and up dancing for a while.

The song craft and musicianship is top shelf; Don can play his guitar very, very well, and his band is full of seasoned, talented, excellent musicians. Don’s vocal skills are also highly developed. He and his band have perfected that contemporary Nashville country sound that should eventually pay off, especially considering how hard this band works.

You have a rare opportunity to catch Don and his wife Tonya Shevenell (who plays bass with the band) as a duo, at The Maine Songwriters Association Showcase, on Thursday night at The Goat Head Soup Lounge (formerly known as Acoustic Coffee - still no new website!).

This weekly MSA gig has been going down each Thursday night for the last three years, and is a great way to see local live entertainment in an intimate setting. Other performers playing this Thursday night include local songwriter heroes Jonathan Call (7:00 PM), Phil Daligan (7:35 PM), and Judd Mulkerin (8:10 PM). That’s a line-up that would get me to this gig even without Don Campbell ; With Don included (8:45 PM), it’s an evening not to be missed.

The Goat Head Soup Lounge is officially still renovating, so there won’t be any food or drink for sale – this evening will have the feel of a pot luck supper. Bring a dish to share – no kidding!

All the best to you!
