AUDIENCE POLL: Best Pizza
By RAY ROUTHIER, Staff Writer Portland Press Herald Sunday, March 18, 2007

Ricetta's Brick Oven Pizzeria, South Portland and Falmouth 219 Portland Pie Company, Portland, South Portland and Westbrook 217 For a sit-down pizza meal, I like Ricetta's in South Portland. It's spacious and my daughter can watch the pizzas being made right there. In fact, last time we were standing at the counter watching, a nice pizza maker gave her some dough to play with right at our table.

Portland Pie is a choice of mine for take-out. It's great, and with three locations, it's always on my way home.

I've tried Ricetta's in Falmouth three times. The first time the pizza was great. I had just moved here from Mass. and thought that I had found a great pizza place. The second time the pizza was very greasy and nowhere near my first experience. The third time I ordered a calzone which was a complete disaster. The cheese was on the outside and the entire thing was almost tasteless. Now I buy pizza dough and sauce there and make my own. The ingredients are obviously top quality but there is a total lack of consistency in the cooking. I sent them an email about my last experience but didn't get a reply.report abuse

Pizza Joint is by far the best pizza in Maine. Its actually real pizza. Portland Pie is very average. Ricettas is decent but could be a lot better given their brick oven.report abuse

Flatbread on Commercial St. in Portland. Great-tasting pizzas with unique topping combinations.report abuse
