Sweet Charity

Earlier this week I visited the rehearsal of Lyric’s third slot production “Sweet Charity”. Running the second act was the schedule, and when I arrived they were ending the elevator scene with Charity and Oscar, played by Kate Davis and Denis Fontaine. It was fun to see the still-in-progress set pieces like the elevator already in use. The actors were nearly off book for the dialog nearly a month from opening. In the lobby it was the taking of the last of the headshots of the cast for the lobby board. Most nights there are multiple activities – costume fittings, music rehearsals, set work and blocking.
While rehearsals were taking place on stage, a production meeting for “Man of La Mancha” was taking place in the boardroom. The auditions for that show are this Saturday. Last weekend was a fundraiser for the theater “Broadway” – even though it’s the dead of winter, the theater is far from deserted on these snowy, cold nights and weekends.
