Chamber Music Festival
The Portland Chamber Music Festival begins tonight. Tonight's concert features music by Mozart, R. Murray Schafer and Brahms. The concert on Saturday features music by Rossini, Monteverdi, Respighi and Vivaldi. The program for the concert on Aug. 24 includes works by Strauss, Earl Kim and Schubert and the program for the concert on Aug. 26 features music by Dvorak, Vincent Ho and Mozart. Pre-concert discussions begin an hour before each show. Concerts designed for kids ages 3-12 are on Sunday. Call (800) 320-0257 or go to www.pcmf.org for tickets. Doreen's Jazz
Dixieland clarinetist Doreen Ketchens and her five-piece jazz band perform at the Saco River Grange Hall in Bar Mills Friday and Saturday nights. A native of New Orleans, Ketchens performs Dixieland, jazz and gospel. Call 929-6472 for tickets. Steve Miller Band
In June, Capitol Records released a 30th-anniversary album of Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle." To celebrate the anniversary and the new release, the band is on tour. At the Augusta Civic Center you'll be sure to hear the band's big hits, such as "Rock 'n Me," "Jetliner," "Jungle Love" and "Swingtown," but you'll also hear music from his blues and jazz roots. Sister Hazel
Gainesville, Florida rock quintet Sister Hazel heads to Freeport Saturday night. The band is releasing a new album in October, titled "Absolutely." Sister Hazel's 1997 album, "Somewhere More Familiar" is one of the band's most successful albums, including the hit "All For You." The band's songs have been included in the movie soundtracks of "Clay Pigeons," "10 Things I Hate About You" and "The Wedding Planner." When: 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19 Where: Discovery Park, L.L. DaPonte String Quartet
The DaPonte String Quartet closes its summer concert series with guest pianist Veronica Jochum. Jochum has taught at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston for more than 40 years. Michael Kleinschmidt
Michael Kleinschmidt, the director of music and the organist of Trinity Church in Copley Square in Boston, is the guest organist performing Tuesday as part of the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ's summer concert series. Kleinschmidt is a first prize winner in the American Guild of Organists competitions and the Flint International Organ Playing Competition. He will perform works by Bach, Dupre and Saint Saen. Duke Robillard
B.B. King has said that blues guitarist Duke Robillard is "one of the great players." Robillard, the founder of the band Roomful of Blues, has performed with King, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Maria Muldaur and many more. The award-winning musician plays at Chicky's Fine Diner Wednesday night. Blues guitarist and songwriter Jon Shain opens. Shain also will headline his own show at Chicky's on Aug. 24 and will perform at the Big Kahuna Cafe in Bridgton on Aug. 25-26. For tickets to the shows at Chicky's, call 854-9555.
